Queanbeyan Sustainability Group (QSG) Inc is a community not-for-profit organisation. Our aim is to promote and facilitate community action that reduces our region’s ecological footprint, builds stronger social connections and strengthens our local economy for the benefit of our community and the environment that supports it.
QSG was formed in 2011 by Queanbeyan City residents interested in bringing people together to work for change. QSG was incorporated in September 2011. A seven-person committee manages the organisation. The Constitution and Rules of Association are based on those provided by the NSW Office of Fair Trading. The management committee meets monthly.
Many people in our community are already taking steps to reduce their environmental impact as individuals and households. QSG is designed to help others learn how they can start to do likewise and to bring people together to work on a large scale.
We plan to work across a range of issues including local food production, energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable transport and reuse of materials to reduce waste. We are also interested in investigating the feasibility of establishing a community-owned renewable energy system in Queanbeyan City.
Our activities will include demonstrations and workshops to enable an exchange of skills and in some cases to help people to save money.
Our first major project is taking responsibility for managing the Railway Park Organic Community Garden in Henderson Rd, Queanbeyan. The garden will continue to offer food growing plots for rent by the year but will include a new component of demonstration garden beds and regular workshops.
